"Better in Nature than in a Cage"

Rescue and Shelter

Welcome to PWNS we are a private shelter/sanctuary that specialize in large birds/parrots such as Amazons African Greys,Cockatoos and Macaws. We also provide re-homing for everything from Budgies to finches as well. Our main concern is for the welfare of the birds in need of a good home.

We opened our home more than 3 years ago and became the first privately operated rescue/Sanctuary in the maritimes. Our work with the public and social media helps us educate the public about the lifelong commitment  Through our home we have we have managed to rehabilitate problem bird and rehome them into permanent home. Problems bird or bird that have a handicap we provide a forever home.

We have also through our service helped many birds stay with their owners through training and behavioral advice.

Giving up a pet parrot can be a very difficult thing to do! Most of the birds that come to us are from loving homes but due to unforeseen changes the owners are simply no longer able to keep their pet parrot. Their owners have put their birds welfare and happiness above any financial value.

Our goal is to fully rehabilitate and socialize these beautiful animals so that they may live a life of happiness and harmony.

In most instances when we feel that they have recovered their health and trust of humans we look at finding a suitable home for the bird with an individual or family that has a full understanding of large Bird care and are willing to sign a legally binding re-homing contract. These requirements viewable on our Terms of Adoption page. One of these requirements is to allow us to check in on the bird from time to time return the bird to us in the event of problems.

We are a NO Breeding, No Sale, No Commerce sanctuary in accordance with guideline set forth by the Global Federation of Wildlife Sanctuaries. We do not charge for surrendering a bird!

All parties are required to fill out and sign a binding surrender agreement which sets out all of the guidelines by which your bird is being surrendered.
